The town of Septemvri formed in 1956 /prof. Iv. Batakliev, Pazardzhik and Pazardzhik region, 1969/ due to the merging of the village of Septemvri and Septemvri railway station. In 1964 the settlement owing to its crossroad location and increased population, and as a center of economic and cultural life, was declared a town. The town of Septemvri is the westernmost settlement in the Pazardzhik field, which locality is situated between the Maritsa river and the Rhodope mountain. The altitude of Septemvri is about 240 m. The Bosnia Road, also known as the Adriatic Road passes through the former Sarahanbey.
Our famous railway road from Belovo railway station to Pazardzhik – Plovdiv – Svilengrad has been passing near Septemvri since 1873, and in 1888 it was continued to Sofia. The railway line for Varvara – Velingrad – Razlog was built in 1926.
The road Sofia-Plovdiv passes at a distance of 1.5 km south of the railway station. The latter performs the connection with the county town of Pazardzhik, which lays at a distance of 19.5 km. The nearest villages are: Zlokuchene, Semchinovo and Simeonovets.
The locality is abundant in waters – through Maritsa river and the constructed irrigation channels and not lastly through underground waters. In the old chronicles it is mentioned that the residents of Sarahanbey had been farmers, gardeners and stock-breeders. One of the factors for intensive development of the populated place is the railway station providing connections and good market. In the past people were mostly breeding rye, rice, tobacco, and even roses. Well developed were also fruit, vegetable and vine growing. Presently the basic grown crops are: rye, corn and vegetables.
The town of Septemvri is the largest crossroad in the western part of the Pazardzhik field. It was like that in the Middle Ages as well. It is not accidental that it was also considered a town at that time.
