The Golden Treasure of the Getae Tribe

The Golden Treasure of the Getae Tribe

Numerous news agencies and mass media have spread pictures of the golden treasure found last week near the village of Sveshtari during the excavations of the so-called Omurtag mound. The finding weighs 1.8 kg and can be dated to the second half of the 4th century BC. This is the time of the rise of the Gatae rule, including its political, military, cultural and spiritual progress, during which the Getae exerted big influence on the beliefs of the Celts and the Germans - that is, on their western neighbors at this time. The treasure can now be seen in the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia.
