Rose Festival in Kazanlak - 24.05-24.06.2013

The Rose Festival in Kazanlak established in the early 20th century has been celebrated for 110 years. It continues for several weeks and during this time the guests of Kazanlak from the country and abroad can join and take part in a series of festive events. The celebration culminates in the first days of June, when a carnival procession dedicated to the queen of flowers is organized and the traditions and practices of rose picking and rose oil making are demonstrated. Master craftsmen and producers of various items made from roses offer their products. Every weekend from late May to late June folklore groups from the surrounding villages present ritual "picking" in the rose garden in the middle of the field. The holidays are filled with concerts, exhibitions, dance performances, tastings and competitions. Central role in the festivities plays the Queen Rose - the most beautiful girl from Kazanlak selected in a beauty contest. For one year she is going to be a Goodwill Ambassador and will represent her town during public events and celebrations in the twin towns of Kazanlak worldwide.
