The new border checkpoint "Makaza - Nimphea", which will connect Northern Europe to the ports of the White Sea, was opened on September 9th. Its construction as the last section of the Pan-European Transport Corridor No. 9 will significantly ease the passage of the Greek-Bulgarian border. Initially, through the border checkpoint "Makaza" will be able to pass cars and vans with up to 8 seats, without that of the driver, as well as up to 3.5 tons freight vehicles.
The categories agreed upon are based on the requirements of European Directive 2007/46 and the readiness of the two countries at present. The vehicles will be stopped for entry or exit border control in one place only. The newly built road link connects the towns of Haskovo and Kardjali on the Bulgarian territory and Komotini and Alexandroupolis - in Greece.
