On 15 and 16 February 2014 Borovets will host the European Cup for men Alpine Skiing 2014. Elite skiers will gather for a last warm up before the Olympics in Sochi.
Alongside with the preparations for this international event, in Borovets continue the activities aimed at realization of the massive investment program for EUR 40 million. The new season keeps a pleasant surprise for the fans of winter sports. There will be less queues and easier access to the lifts thanks to the new system with contactless payment cards. The lift passes can be recharged via the Internet. Their prices remain unchanged – the price of a day card for adults is BGN 55.00, and the one for children – BGN 33.00. Night skiing for adults costs BGN 22.00. The same as last season are also the prices for all ski and snowboard equipment rental packages and for training lessons with ski teachers. New snow cannons will ensure better conditions for skiing in the areas of "Sitnyakovo" (Central Borovets), "Yastrebetz" and in the finals section of the "Yastrebetz 1" ski track.
During the new winter season there will be some improvements in Borosport Snow Park, the most modern attraction in Borovets. The park, which has become a favorite place for snowboarders and freestylers, will be at the top of the "Popangelov" ski track this season. There will be three sections with various degree of difficulty – for beginners, intermediate and freestyle expert level. According to the preliminary estimates, there will be about a 5 to 7% growth in the number of tourists in Borovets this winter.
The first start of the ski season in Bulgaria this year will be in Pamporovo in the Rhodope Mountains on December 7th. The price of a 24-hour pass will be with BGN 3.00 higher than the price last season. "It will cost BGN 53.00, but still it will be the cheapest 24-hour pass in a top winter resort in the country", explained the Executive Director of Pamporovo AD Mr. Marian Belyakov. He believes that this will be the best winter season in the resort for the past 10 years.
In Bansko the intensive preparations for the season opening on December 14th are at full swing and many people hope that the ski runs will be opened even earlier. The prices of the 24-hour passes for the various ski facilities will remain unchanged.
In Pirin National Park a new special facility for controlled blasting of avalanches is put in operation. It is activated from Mount Palashitsa and will ensure the safety of the skiers who run down the slopes in the vicinity of Banderishka meadow.
