Bayuvi dupki – Dzhindzhiritsa Reserve

Bayuvi dupki – Dzhindzhiritsa Reserve is part of Pirin National Park. In 1934 it was declared a reserve by Ordinance No 1388 of the Council of Ministers. This was done to preserve its natural relict Macedonian Pine and Bosnian Pine forests and the great variety of plant and animal species living in it.
In 1977 Bayuvi dupki – Dzhindzhiritsa was added to the list of biosphere reserves of the Man and the Biosphere Programme of UNESCO.
The reserve takes up an area of 2873 hectares. It is situated between Pirin Peak and Banski suhodol Peak and includes Bayuvi dupki cirque, Razlozhki suhodol cirque, Kamenititsa cirque, Okaden Peak, Segmen tepe, Dautov Peak, Konyarnika Area, and the valley of Byala River (White River).
The reserve is home to approximately 500 higher plant species, 55 endemic plants, and many species included in the Red Book of Bulgaria (a list of the endangered and extinct species that live or have lived on the territory of Bulgaria) and in similar European and global lists. The chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is the symbol of the biosphere reserve.
Bayuvi dupki – Dzhindzhiritsa is part of Bayuvi dupki Park Region. The E4 European Long Distance Path: Pyrenees – Alps – Rila – Pirin – Peloponnese – passes through the reserve. Pirin National Park stretch of the international path starts at Predel Mountain Hostel and goes through Yavorov Mountain Hostel, Vihren Mountain Hostel, Tevno ezero Hut (Tevno Lake Hut), and Pirin Mountain Hostel, to Popovi livadi Area (Priest’s Meadows Area).

Start from Bansko and take the asphalt road to the golf course in the region. It is followed by a dirt road to Yavorov Mountain Hostel. From Yavorov Mountain Hostel take the path leading in the reserve – there are signposts. There is a visitor information centre at Yavorov Mountain Hostel. However, it is not always open to visitors.

The park experts and rangers are the personnel of the visitor centre. Lectures are given in Bulgarian, French, English, and Russian.

All activities are prohibited in the reserve except for protection, visits for scientific purposes, and passing through the E4 International Path without deviating from it.
Visitors must pay attention to the safety and conduct information boards. They must not make any noise, pick any plants, or disturb any animals or birds. Lighting fires is prohibited. There are no rest areas.
