Rhodopes Tourist Region

Rhodopes Tourism Region falls within the boundaries of the South Central Region. South Central Region covers the territories of the districts of Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Smolyan, Kardzhali, and Haskovo and 57 municipalities. The scope of the Rhodope tourism region includes 28 municipalities from the above-mentioned administrative districts.

The region covers parts of the Upper Thracian lowland, the southern parts of the Central Stara Planina, parts of Sredna Gora, and the Rhodope mountain. The seat of the Management Organization is in the town of Smolyan.

The main types of tourism developed in the region are mountain tourism (all types – skiing, hiking, recreational) and rural tourism. Additional types of tourism developed in the region are balneo, SPA and wellness tourism; adventure and ecotourism; cultural and festival tourism, religious and pilgrimage tourism.
